The market place for car insurance in the UK has taken a massive leap forward in the past five years and the whole market strategy for many car insurance providers has taken a new path to the price comparison companies.
The traditional method of advertising car insurance was originally placed on the high street with the local insurance broker servicing the local community and the whole process was very much a face to face operation. In the 1980’s however the world of car insurance was revolutionised by the intervention of the now household name, Direct Line.
This new kid on the block bought home the power of marketing through the biggest medias of the time, TV, radio and telephone directories and introduced the British public to the car insurance call centre.
For twenty years the car insurance call centre was to lead the way in how people would buy their insurance cover and an explosion of call centres was seen across the UK.
During this time the main method of marketing was that of the telephone directory such as the Yellow Pages and their own market place became an extremely lucrative media with everyone clambering to get themselves in the opening sections of the directories.
For the last five years the car insurance industry has been turned on its head yet again with the intervention of the internet and the another new kid on the block, the insurance aggregators or as they are better known the ‘price comparison’ websites.
In this short space of time the traditional telephone directories have literally been obliterated by this new wave media it has been a revolution of choice for the motor insurance consumer who can now find market rates at their fingertips rather than having to spend hours flicking through telephone directories. One of the most successful types of online insurance referrers for niche car insurance cover have been those who specialise in cheaper car insurance for women policies.
