Not satisfied with your auto insurance rate? According to the J.D. Power and Associates 2008 National Auto Insurance Study, overall customer satisfaction has increased across the auto insurance industry. Satisfaction with pricing was highest. Auto insurance rates have decreased in the past few years as companies have become more competitive, so there’s really no reason why you should be paying more than you need to.
What can you do? Many factors determine what your individual rate is. You can start by contacting your current insurance company to see if you can get a lower rate. Ask them what you can do to lower your rate. A good insurance agent or company will provide that advice.
At the same time, you should get a few quotes from other companies to compare against. Because rates vary from company to company, you may find a lower rate after getting three or more quotes. This could save you hundreds even. Keep in mind though, that if you have a lot of at-fault accidents, claims and moving violations on your record you may have a harder time finding lower rates.
Not satisfied with your auto insurance claim service? If your insurance company’s representatives seemed to give you a lot of hassles when you made a claim, were really slow to respond or were rude and unprofessional you certainly have a right to be unsatisfied.
What can you do? One of the benefits of having an agent, especially an independent agent, is that they will go to bat for you if you have claim issues with the insurance company. Contact your agent and let them know why you weren’t happy. If you don’t have an agent, start with the customer service manager or claims manager. You can also file a complaint with your state’s insurance department.
If you don’t feel like you are getting your issues resolved, or are being treated fairly, it’s probably time to switch. Get some comparison quotes and when you find a company you like, check with your state’s insurance department to see if they have had any complaints.
Not satisfied with customer service? If your agent or company representative isn’t responsive, doesn’t return calls or just doesn’t seem to care about getting you the best value on your car insurance, it might be time to shop around. Auto insurance is a competitive business and most of the time you have several choices.
After all, if you’re paying that premium for something required by law (and good for your peace of mind as well) you should feel like you’re getting the right price and service.
