A man walked out to his car only to find it missing. He looked around, thinking that his car had been stolen from the parking lot where he worked. A few hundred yards away he saw an older model Ford Bronco in front of an electrical maintenance box and a police car pulling up to it. Thinking he would report his car stolen the man approached the police officer and discovered that in front of the Bronco smashed up against the concrete pillars that protect the electrical maintenance box was his car.
The driver of the Bronco was drunk and had hit the mans parked car as he was going 60 miles per hour on a 25 mile per hour street. The impact had pushed the parked car into the cement pillars crushing it between the front grill of the truck and the cement barricade. The drunk driver was unharmed and spent the night in jail for being intoxicated, but he was also not insured and the man whose car was destroyed had to pay for the damages himself using his own Spokane car insurance company. The drunk driver was allowed to go free after paying a fine and claiming his truck from the impound yard. Although the owner of the wrecked vehicle was not present at the time of the accident he was held responsible for the damages caused by the uninsured motorist.
By having the right amount of car insurance the man was able to start over in a new car, but he will not forget that it was not his fault that his parked car was destroyed.
